There are some lessons we learn the hard way
Recently, a woman was referred to me after losing the center diamond from her engagement ring. She had worn the ring every day for more than twenty years. She rarely took it off—she cooked in it, slept in it, traveled in it—and simply never imagined that something could happen to it.
Then, while on the beach in Cape Cod, she looked down at her hand and the diamond was gone. She searched the beach for two days, hoping somehow it would surface, but it never did.
When we finally met, I could immediately see how much she loved her rings and how shocked she was that this could happen. Unfortunately, it can. Over time, prongs wear down, settings loosen, and metal becomes thin. Small problems can develop without you realizing it. Her wedding band also showed damage from years of wear without being checked.
The good news is that I was able to help her restore her rings so she can enjoy wearing them again. She is now a client of Grants Jewelry, and I’ll be seeing her from time to time to make sure her rings stay in good condition. And yes—she has also learned not to wear them all the time!
Your Jewelry Needs Care, Too
Fine jewelry is made to be worn and enjoyed, but it should also be cleaned and inspected regularly. A simple inspection can catch a loose stone, worn prong, damaged clasp, or thinning setting before something valuable is lost.
